Home Remedies to Relieve Headaches

May 28, 2019 by Samuel H Leave a Comment

Headaches cause trouble for all of us from time to time. There are plenty of ways to help relieve a headache. Before we get into those, I would advise that if you experience headaches quite often and you’re unsure why do consult a doctor and try to find a way to prevent them in the first place. It is much better never to have a headache in the first place, wouldn’t you agree?

Lady drinking water

Drink Water

The most obvious cause of a headache is dehydration. If you drink water when you’re experiencing a headache, the pain should lessen after a half hour or so.

Drinking water can help you prevent headaches in the first place as you won’t get dehydrated. Not all headaches are caused by dehydration, but it is one of the main causes.

Use a Cold Compress

Sometimes exposure to something cold can help reduce headache symptoms. The idea behind using something cold is to decrease inflammation, slow nerve conduction, and constrict blood vessels. These three factors will reduce the pain in the meantime until the source of your headache recovers itself.

Using a cold compress on the back of the neck or temples of your head will relieve some of the pain caused by your headache. The cold compress method is especially effective for migraines as it slows the nerves communication of the pain levels as well as reduce inflammation.

Drink a Caffeinated Beverage

Sometimes, caffeine can alleviate the symptoms of a headache to some degree. Sipping on a drink of tea or coffee can relieve you of your headache in less than half an hour. Caffeine improves your mood and constricts the blood vessels which can reduce headache pain.

Caffeine works especially well in conjunction with painkillers such as ibuprofen. You must be careful when using caffeine as it is an addictive stimulant. If you consume caffeine on a daily basis, your body may develop a need for it. If you do end up addicted to caffeine, you will likely experience strong headaches whenever you don’t drink your coffee or tea.

The best method is to limit yourself to one teaspoon of coffee or one caffeinated tea per day. If you get a headache on a particular day, drink a second. However, you should never drink more than two caffeinated drinks in a single day as you will surely get addicted.

Yoga

When all else fails, yoga does wonders for the mind and body. Performing yoga exercises distracts you from your pain and helps you relax. Headaches are often caused by stress and tensing your facial muscles, so yoga helps to relieve this form of a headache.

These are a few of the home remedies you can use to relieve headaches. As I said earlier, consult a doctor if you are getting headaches on a daily basis, especially if the pain is intense. You can also take a guide from the lost book of remedies for some natural ways to relieve your headache.

Health Benefits of Yoga

May 24, 2019 by Samuel H Leave a Comment

Yoga involves exercises designed to bring the body and mind together. The combination of breath control, holding poses, and meditation allows for many benefits to your physical and mental health.

In this article, we’ll discuss some of the most beneficial advantages of yoga. Read on if you’d like to know how to improve yourself physically and mentally!

Man with alot of things on his mind, stressed out

Stress Relief

The stresses of life get to us all at some point. Yoga is an excellent means of relieving our stress levels.

When you perform yoga exercises, you have to focus your mind on your breathing and holding the positions you take. The distraction from your stress alone is enough to relieve it. Physical exertion through the exercises also helps you to feel stronger and more content with life.

Strengthens Your Heart

Yoga reduces your blood pressure, allowing your heart to function with less strain. Staying in shape and lower your blood pressure works to your benefit and reduces the risk of heart disease in the future.

Since your heart can function better this way, you’ll also feel younger and more energetic. Even though yoga is exhausting at times, you’ll find yourself more motivated over the course of the day.

Fights Depression

Yoga is a far better method of beating depression than any anti-depressant. Medications for depression tend to leave one with many unnecessary side effects. Yoga allows you to take control of yourself and fight it off naturally.

The reason yoga works against depression is again that the meditation and focus distract you from it. On top of that, you’ll feel better about yourself when you get into the habit of exercising with yoga.

I’m not encouraging you to throw medication out the window and devote your depression to yoga. Some depression is worse than others. Consult with your doctor about potentially reducing your medication. Either way, even if you still medicate yourself, yoga is a strong addition to increase your off of full recovery.

Makes You Stronger

Overall, yoga will get you into shape and improve your physical health. Healthy exercise is as important as a healthy diet. You’ll find it very difficult to stay weak while performing yoga, especially as you improve your flexibility and accomplish more difficult positions.

We all benefit from being in shape and control of our bodies. When we are, our mental condition also improves as we like to be healthy and in control. That is the main benefit of yoga.

After doing yoga, you may need something to replenish your energy, you can take some ideas out of the lost book of remedies.

Home Remedies to Prevent Infection

May 21, 2019 by Samuel H Leave a Comment

Antibiotics are available in pharmacies worldwide by now. It doesn’t take much to ensure that any open wound you have remains clean and doesn’t get infected. What should you do when you need antibiotics, and there are none in your home?

Believe it or not, there are always antibiotics in your home. Natural antibiotics come in many shapes and sizes. Many household necessities can be used as antibiotics. That is the wonder of nature.

Before we get into the home remedies for preventing infection, I suggest you consult with your doctor about using any of these so that you’ll be professionally notified of what each natural antibiotic is capable of. Let’s get into it, shall we?

Golden honey can be used as a remedy

Honey

Honey was one of the first ever natural antibiotics to be recognized for its infection preventative attributes. Even the Ancient Egyptians used honey to protect their skin from infection.

Honey works as an antibiotic thanks to the hydrogen peroxide contained within it. The high content of sugar in honey also helps keep bacteria at bay.

Honey also has a low pH level which draws in moisture, causing the bacteria present to get dehydrated and die off.

If you decide to use honey to prevent infection, you should apply it directly to the wound and spread it around the entire area. The honey will start killing off the bacteria growing there, preventing any outbreak or infection.

Eating honey on a daily basis improves your body’s immune system as well, which can improve your entire body’s ability to fight infection. The best kind of honey to use is Manuka honey.

Garlic is a good antibody

Garlic Extract

Garlic extract was discovered to have antibacterial properties in 2011. Many countries already use garlic extract as a common means of preventing or curing infections.

You can buy garlic extract in a pharmacy or just soak a couple of garlic cloves in olive oil to make your own. Raw garlic extract is quite strong and can even cause internal bleeding if you ingest too much at one time. Make sure you don’t eat any more than two cloves in a single day. For more specific instructions, I recommend you consult your doctor.

If the infection you wish to prevent is at skin level, you can rub the garlic extract on the surface of your skin. You may leave a mixture of garlic clove and olive oil on the skin overnight with a cloth to cover it for maximum effect.

Thyme

Thyme Essential Oil

Thyme essential oil works well in natural cleaners but can also be used as an antibiotic. Thyme essential oil can be applied to your skin and helps to prevent infection even from antibiotic-resistant germs.

You should never ingest thyme essential oil. Also, be aware that some people are allergic to concentrated thyme oils. Try a bit on your skin first. If the area you placed it on gets itchy or inflamed, avoid using it. If you suffer from high blood pressure or hyperthyroidism, then don’t try using thyme essential oil at all.

Replace Fast Food with Fast Burn!

May 17, 2019 by Samuel H Leave a Comment

There are foods in the world that pack on fat really fast. Greasy, oily foods will set you on a course for fat-town in no time.

Fortunately, there are also foods which burn fat fast. These foods act in opposition to those that pack on the weight. If you choose to switch out your fast food, your greasy foods, and so on for the following fat-burning foods, you’ll feel smaller in no time!

a vareity of nuts in bowls

1.  Nuts

Nuts contain plenty of healthy fats, proteins, and magnesium. All of these are good for burning fat and building muscles.

The monosaturated fats within nuts will make you feel satisfied and will regulate your cravings. The best choice of nut is the almond.

Make sure you eat unsalted, natural nuts. Don’t buy nuts that have any additives. Purely natural nuts are the best form of nourishment. They will regulate your cravings, keep your heart healthy, and help you build muscles.

Hard boiled eggs

2.  Eggs

Eggs are surprisingly great for burning fats. For years, people thought eggs were bad for you because of the high cholesterol in them. However, we’ve now proven that the cholesterol in eggs is healthy cholesterol and won’t harm your heart.

In fact, eggs have been known to improve your health and resistance to certain diseases. Eggs contain plenty of protein and vitamin b12 which helps to breakdown fat.

Just because eggs are healthy, don’t expect to lose weight by eating fried eggs with salt all over them. Boiled eggs without salt are the healthiest method of consumption. It may not taste as good, but it’s better for your health in the long run.

Green heart amde out of vege

3.  Green Vegetables

No surprises here! All vegetables are good for you in their own way, but green vegetables are the best for burning fat.

The main reason green vegetables are so good for burning fat is they produce negative calories. You will spend more calories digesting green vegetables than you will absorb from it, meaning if you ate nothing but raw green vegetables, you wouldn’t gain any calories at all. (I’m not advising this as doing so would leave you very weak. Green vegetables don’t have all your dietary needs and as such should be consumed along with other foods)

Spinach is the best green vegetable as it also contains vitamins and helps protect you from cancer and heart disease.

Raw healthy meat

4.  Lean Meats

Lean meats, such as chicken or fish, are great for balancing out your diet. While the above fat-burning foods are great, you really need something substantial in your diet to balance everything. Lean meats will give you the proteins and vitamins you require to stay healthy while not giving you all the fats that other meats have.

Avoid overusing oil when cooking these meats as that will ruin much of the healthy ingredients within the meat.

Now you know what foods to look out for when trying to burn fats. You can read about the red tea detox that would also help with fat burn here.

Smoothies VS Juices: Battle of Benefits

May 14, 2019 by Samuel H Leave a Comment

Lots of people love to drink a smoothie or a juiced drink every day for their health. Both smoothies and juices have plenty of health benefits to be worthwhile. I am, of course, referring to healthy smoothies and juices. (None of that processed, sugar water)

The big question we have is ‘which one is better?’

Both have advantages that the other doesn’t. In this article, I’ll give a description of each advantage and disadvantage of both smoothies and juices. Let’s get right into the first one:

Green smoothie vs green juice

Cost

Cost may not be directly related to health, but it is a factor I’m sure we all consider. Health is wealth, but you still need wealth to some extent.

Smoothies tend to cost less than juices as you’re drinking the majority of the fruit and vegetables. Juice drinks only include the juice of the ingredients, causing you to need to buy more of them for the same volume of produce.

Nutrient Density

Juices win out over smoothies with this one. The majority of nutrients in fruits and vegetables are inside the juices rather than the flesh. Since you only include juice, your juice drink contains more nutrients than a smoothie.

Digestive Prowess

When I talk about digestive prowess, there are two factors to consider:

  • Nutrient Absorption
  • Satisfaction

The smoothie comes out ahead on both of these counts. Even though juices contain more nutrients overall, the lack of fiber in them allows your body to digest the contents quickly. Since you digest juices much faster than smoothies, your body isn’t able to absorb all the nutrients and loses a lot of value.

Smoothies get fiber from the flesh of fruits and nuts which gives your body time to absorb all the goodness inside them. Not only that but smoothies also make you feel satisfied longer, reducing cravings for much longer than a juice drink would.

Variety

Juice drinks tend to have more variety. It’s much easier to mix various fruit and vegetable juices together and be left with a great, yet still healthy drink.

Smoothies are more difficult to be flexible with as you need to combine fruits, vegetables, and nuts in such a way that the product isn’t too thick, nor too fleshy. There are still hundreds of each kind of drink to choose from, however, so variety is unlikely to be a major problem.

Blood Sugar Stability

This last factor is why I consider smoothies to be better than juices. The fiber in smoothies balances the effects of the drink with your blood sugar levels. Juices contain so many sugars that drinking too much may cause an imbalance.

So long as you still eat fiber-filled foods, juices will still be good for you. However, smoothies provide more benefits to your health, not to mention your wallet!
