Home Remedies to Relieve Headaches

May 28, 2019 by Samuel H Leave a Comment

Headaches cause trouble for all of us from time to time. There are plenty of ways to help relieve a headache. Before we get into those, I would advise that if you experience headaches quite often and you’re unsure why do consult a doctor and try to find a way to prevent them in the first place. It is much better never to have a headache in the first place, wouldn’t you agree?

Lady drinking water

Drink Water

The most obvious cause of a headache is dehydration. If you drink water when you’re experiencing a headache, the pain should lessen after a half hour or so.

Drinking water can help you prevent headaches in the first place as you won’t get dehydrated. Not all headaches are caused by dehydration, but it is one of the main causes.

Use a Cold Compress

Sometimes exposure to something cold can help reduce headache symptoms. The idea behind using something cold is to decrease inflammation, slow nerve conduction, and constrict blood vessels. These three factors will reduce the pain in the meantime until the source of your headache recovers itself.

Using a cold compress on the back of the neck or temples of your head will relieve some of the pain caused by your headache. The cold compress method is especially effective for migraines as it slows the nerves communication of the pain levels as well as reduce inflammation.

Drink a Caffeinated Beverage

Sometimes, caffeine can alleviate the symptoms of a headache to some degree. Sipping on a drink of tea or coffee can relieve you of your headache in less than half an hour. Caffeine improves your mood and constricts the blood vessels which can reduce headache pain.

Caffeine works especially well in conjunction with painkillers such as ibuprofen. You must be careful when using caffeine as it is an addictive stimulant. If you consume caffeine on a daily basis, your body may develop a need for it. If you do end up addicted to caffeine, you will likely experience strong headaches whenever you don’t drink your coffee or tea.

The best method is to limit yourself to one teaspoon of coffee or one caffeinated tea per day. If you get a headache on a particular day, drink a second. However, you should never drink more than two caffeinated drinks in a single day as you will surely get addicted.

Yoga

When all else fails, yoga does wonders for the mind and body. Performing yoga exercises distracts you from your pain and helps you relax. Headaches are often caused by stress and tensing your facial muscles, so yoga helps to relieve this form of a headache.

These are a few of the home remedies you can use to relieve headaches. As I said earlier, consult a doctor if you are getting headaches on a daily basis, especially if the pain is intense. You can also take a guide from the lost book of remedies for some natural ways to relieve your headache.

Health Benefits of Yoga

May 24, 2019 by Samuel H Leave a Comment

Yoga involves exercises designed to bring the body and mind together. The combination of breath control, holding poses, and meditation allows for many benefits to your physical and mental health.

In this article, we’ll discuss some of the most beneficial advantages of yoga. Read on if you’d like to know how to improve yourself physically and mentally!

Man with alot of things on his mind, stressed out

Stress Relief

The stresses of life get to us all at some point. Yoga is an excellent means of relieving our stress levels.

When you perform yoga exercises, you have to focus your mind on your breathing and holding the positions you take. The distraction from your stress alone is enough to relieve it. Physical exertion through the exercises also helps you to feel stronger and more content with life.

Strengthens Your Heart

Yoga reduces your blood pressure, allowing your heart to function with less strain. Staying in shape and lower your blood pressure works to your benefit and reduces the risk of heart disease in the future.

Since your heart can function better this way, you’ll also feel younger and more energetic. Even though yoga is exhausting at times, you’ll find yourself more motivated over the course of the day.

Fights Depression

Yoga is a far better method of beating depression than any anti-depressant. Medications for depression tend to leave one with many unnecessary side effects. Yoga allows you to take control of yourself and fight it off naturally.

The reason yoga works against depression is again that the meditation and focus distract you from it. On top of that, you’ll feel better about yourself when you get into the habit of exercising with yoga.

I’m not encouraging you to throw medication out the window and devote your depression to yoga. Some depression is worse than others. Consult with your doctor about potentially reducing your medication. Either way, even if you still medicate yourself, yoga is a strong addition to increase your off of full recovery.

How to Remove Fatigue from Your Life

May 11, 2019 by Samuel H Leave a Comment

Do you feel like you have less energy than you should? Does it seem like you get burned out much quicker than the average person? If you’re suffering from fatigue, there are millions of others in the same boat as you.

Fatigue is a worldwide problem that isn’t fully recognized. Everyone knows what fatigue is, but most would conclude that those who feel it more often are just tired. While lack of sleep does cause fatigue, there are many other reasons as well. Read on to find out some ways to remove fatigue from your life!

Man consulting his famale doctor

Consult Your Doctor

Fatigue is a symptom of many common illnesses, including diabetes, Crohn’s disease, anemia, and so on. If you feel like your fatigue isn’t caused by bad habits or anything, do consult your doctor.

A doctor will be able to determine if you have any health problem that is causing you unusual amounts of fatigue. They can also check any medications you’re using for potential fatigue side effects.

Exercise

I know it seems strange to promote physical activity to deal with fatigue. However, those who exercise regularly are less likely to experience fatigue in general.

Getting your body moving helps it adapt and get used to physical activity. When your body sees that you plan to push it physically, it will prepare itself and boost your energy levels. After some time, you’ll notice that you have extra energy even when you aren’t exercising.

Drink More Water

Dehydration causes major fatigue if left unchecked. If you don’t drink enough water, it impairs most of what you’ll try to do throughout the day. Water is essential for physical health. Without enough of it, your mind will run on less energy and your body will get exhausted much quicker than it should.

Sleep Regularly

Not only do you need to get enough sleep each day, but you also need to sleep at the same time every day. If you sleep at irregular hours, your body clock gets thrown off and doesn’t know when it will next get to rest.

The body clock helps us to go into REM sleep for the longest period possible during the night. Irregular sleeping methods throw this off and leave you feeling tired even if you had enough hours of sleep.

Eat Like a Bird

We’re trained into thinking there are three meals a day we must eat and that’s it. While we do need to eat regularly just as we do with sleep, we shouldn’t confine ourselves to three set meals. Many people benefit from eating six or seven smaller meals over the course of the day.

Eating smaller meals allows your body to digest food over the entire course of the day rather than forcing it to digest a huge meal all at once. Eating smaller meals more regularly can provide you with more energy over the day and helps reduce the risk of weight gain.

Red tea can also help with fatigue, click here for more information.

Easy Ways to Focus the Wandering Mind

April 21, 2019 by Samuel H Leave a Comment

Do you suffer from a wandering mind? Do you have trouble sitting down and getting something done? The mind functions so quickly that it’s very easy to get distracted. A noise or memory can cause us to completely forget what we’re doing and focus on something else.

The need to focus at certain times can be an issue for many of us as we find it difficult to put all our energy into a single thing for more than a few minutes. Thankfully, there are some methods we can use to make things easier that don’t require much effort.

Man reading and writing a book

Play Some Music

Many find that having background noise such as music actually helps them focus. When you try to devote all your energy to a single thing, your brain still has space for more. When that happens, you’ll start getting random memories or thoughts popping into your conscious mind.

Using music while working allows your brain to focus on more than one thing but devote ‘most’ of your attention on the work at hand, rather than the music.

Take Daydream Breaks

If you find yourself daydreaming while working, set a schedule for it. Work for thirty minutes then daydream for five minutes. Allowing your mind some time to focus on something else helps it to focus for longer periods of time.

Very few people are capable of focusing on a single task for more than half an hour which is why it is good to take a break every so often. You could even take a break every fifteen minutes if necessary. Having a cup of red tea to go with the break would taste great.

Avoid Any Stress Factors

The location in which you work is important. You shouldn’t have anything nearby that causes you stress. An example of this would be studying in your room. Psychologists suggest that you study elsewhere from where you sleep, such as the dining table.

You could even work outside if possible. Try to move around as best you can. If you work in a singular location every day, then that place will become a stressful location for you. (Hence why you shouldn’t work in your room)

Rebound Therapy

Rebound therapy means taking note of when your mind starts to wander and snapping back into focus immediately. If you learn to notice the signs of mind wandering, then you can develop a rebound habit where your mind automatically refocuses itself.

A habit like this takes about six weeks of conscious action before it becomes automatic, but it can significantly improve your work ethic in the future.

Top Ways to Relieve Anxiety

September 17, 2018 by Samuel H Leave a Comment

More than half the population of the planet has experienced anxiety attacks of some measure. Anxiety comes in many forms, some worse than others. Regardless of the intensity of anxiety, we’d all rather avoid it. There are plenty of methods to relieve anxiety that you can do on your own.

If your anxiety problem is affecting your life, I would recommend getting professional help with it. However, if you feel strong enough to conquer this thing on your own, then read on to learn some simple methods for relieving anxiety:

Exercise

You’ve probably heard that exercise relieves stress and anxiety before. I highly recommend getting into an exercise routine as it truly does improve your health, physically and mentally. Regular exercise improves the following things:

Your ability to sleep.
The amount of energy you have each day
Your confidence and self-image

Try to find a method of exercise that you find enjoyable. Whether you choose rock climbing, running, swimming, or whatever else, enjoying yourself while doing so will significantly improve the outcome.

One effective method to relieve stress and anxiety through exercise is Yoga. I strongly recommend you to take a look at Yoga Burn Systems Review. It is a 12-week program that utilizes a technique known as dynamic squeezing and aids in staying in shape as well as staying positive in life.

Another benefit of exercising will allow you to lose weight, in return, physically looking good, which will make you feel good about yourself too. If you want to find an effective program for losing weight and achieving a flat belly, click here.

Scented Candles

You might be surprised how soothing the flicker of a flame can be to the mind. The smell of scented candles combined with the atmosphere that the flame provides to a room alter your mood. We refer to this process as aromatherapy.

Aromatherapy involves using certain aromas to alter and improve one’s mood. The results of aromatherapy decrease anxiety levels, if not removing them altogether. The therapy also aids your ability to sleep which is another factor in anxiety.

Drink Less Coffee

So many people rely on caffeine these days to get through their work. Caffeine in small doses doesn’t cause you any harm. However, the more caffeine you consume in a day, the higher risk you have of experiencing anxiety attacks.

If you think you need caffeine in your day to survive, I would suggest drinking a single coffee in the morning with no more than one teaspoon of coffee powder in it.

Write about It

Anxiety isn’t always caused by an outside factor. Sometimes anxiety is caused by stressful thoughts coming from within your mind. When that is the case, you need to get it on paper and work through whatever is giving you stress.

You can still relieve your anxiety briefly through other means, but it will always return if the problem is in your mind. Work it out on paper and then do your best to find someone you can trust to share it with.

Avoid being Along

While I’d advise that if you get anxiety whenever you’re alone, you need to see a professional about it, you should endeavor to be among people who love and care for you in the meantime. People who are naturally drawn toward negative thoughts have a higher chance of suffering from anxiety.

As such, the best medicine is to be with people you’re comfortable with and try to be positive and grateful for what you have.

Please Get Help

Anxiety is a common affliction and is nothing to be ashamed of. I strongly advise you to reach out to someone close to you or a professional therapist. Your happiness and comfort are as important as anyone else’s!
